Gone are the days that the safety and security of our nation depends solely on alleviating threats from abroad. The defense of our nation not only depends on a strong, smart fighting force, but the strengthening of our borders, a robust intelligence operation, genuine diplomacy, and the ready response of our finest first-responders.

 

We continue working to bring the attention of federal officials to the potential for a severe earthquake with calamitous effects in the New Madrid Seismic Zone. In coordination with federal, state and local officials we are working to make sure the response to such a disaster is not only adequate, but expedited.

  

Living in Southern Missouri, we're no strangers to severe and damaging storms. We continue to work hand-in-hand with agencies like USDA Rural Development to help every community invest in the warning sirens and emergency response infrastructure needed to stay safe and ahead of these storms.  When these storms do strike, working on a bipartisan basis is critical to ensuring the federal response is not only swift, but that the resources needed for rebuilding are in place.

 

As Southern Missouri continues to battle drugs and crime, we continue to secure federal resources for the Missouri Sheriffs Meth-Amphetamine Relief Team (MOSMART) whose work is invaluable in fighting the development, sale and use of meth-amphetamines in Southern Missouri. In addition, we work each year to support local community applications for the Byrne and COPS grant programs that keep rural law enforcement, fire service and emergency response teams operating at the highest levels.
